Using a team building concept, the players and participants shall interact and develop an effective organizational structure, develop an incident strategy and tactical action plan (IAP), allocate resources, make appropriate assignments, coordinate internal and external resource groups, manage information in the field and achieve the basic command goals to manage realistic scenarios presented using state-of-the-art simulation software and atmospheric readings via wireless monitors.
Depending on the scope and complexity of a hazardous materials incident, operations may be managed as either a Branch or Group within the ICS organization. This program provides an overview on the application and use of a Hazardous Materials Group at a hazmat incident. The senior Hazmat Officer (Group Supervisor), who reports to the Operations Section Chief or the IC shall develop the tactical options (ICS 208 HM form) to fulfill the hazmat portion of the IAP and ensure all tasks are completed.
This program is limited to the NIMS ICS component and Eight Step Process for command and management of a Hazardous Materials Incident. This program does address specific NFPA 472 and OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120(q) competencies for both Hazardous Materials Technician, Hazardous Materials Incident Commander and On-Scene Incident Commander.
